Rainer Hensel has composed, arranged, and produced all the music for the films of Theo van Gogh. Furthermore, he has worked with a variety of movie directors like: Mark de Cloe, Thijs Römer, Steve Buscemi, Gerardjan Rijnders, Mijke de Jong, Johan Timmers, Maartje Nevejan, Jeroen Berkvens, Martin Lagestee, Maria Peters, Dave Schram. This includes a variety of musical styles, including composing for a symphonic orchestra. One of the Rainer’s key-competencies is integrating real instruments like violin, viola, cello, oboe, bassoon and soprano/ alto and tenor classical singing into cinematographic soundscapes. Another key-competency is the creation of a high-quality orchestral sound without the use of a real symphony orchestra.
Rainer has also composed and produced music for theater (i.e. with Gerardjan Reinders & the Belgium director Sam Bogaerts). Furthermore, Rainer has composed and played live music under a variety of (silent) films, one example being the movie ‘06’ from Theo van Gogh, the music played by a tango-quintet. Rainer has also initiated and produced literary projects, by musically interpreting poems of Jules Deelder and the Belgium poet Jotie T’Hooft. Both projects were released on vinyl and cd, and of course on streaming platforms. This has also resulted in the fact that Rainer has produced and edited dance-videos, based on the musical interoperations of Jules Deelder poems.
